10th Annual Breast Cancer Emergency Fund Event

Friday, August 27, 2010 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94116 - 7:00 - 10:30 p.m.

In 2000 the AEF decided to branch out and start the BCEF as a "second charitable arm", of the organization. While it met with a bit of "adversity" at first from the community "at large" over concerns of it "taking away" from the AEF needs, it was started that year. One of the "first" major fundraisers for the BCEF was, what has now become, the 10th annual Breast Cancer Emergency Fund Dinner. It's first year was spearheaded by Sandy "Mama" Reinhardt, Peter Fiske and produced by Ray Tilton. It was held at the Cliff House and took place in early 2001. The first year saw the inaugural "survivors" award go to Faith Fancher, popular, local bay area news reporter who publicly and openly shared her battle with breast cancer. Through the auspices of her foundation, Faith donated $10,000 to the event which raised over $24,000 that first year. Unfortunately, Faith lost her battle with breast cancer and an "annual" award was named in her honor.

For the next 8 years with Mama at the helm, the event has been held at various locations such as, The SF Zoo Lemur Building, Veterans War Memorial Building, The ARC of SF, The Swedish American Hall, and now in it's second year at the City Forest Lodge. For the last 8 years the Event has been produced by Mark Paladini, except for 2004 and 2005 where both he and Ray Tilton "co-produced". The event has honored many people from every walk of life including "survivor awards" as well as many awards acknowledging individuals for their contributions to the dinners known as "From The Heart" awards.

Mama's Family & Friend's have supported this event every year through volunteering as food servers, bartenders, donation of auction items, and countless other contributions, not to mention all the "personal" donations of cash as well. Through individuals, and the efforts of Mama's family & Friend's, the event has been able to raise for BCEF in excess of $100,000 over the last 9 years.
